Educational Requirements
Minimum high school completion (12 years of education) from a recognized educational board. Subject requirements vary by sector.
- Science background for healthcare, IT, and engineering sectors
- Business/Commerce background for retail, logistics, and hospitality
- Vocational diploma graduates are also eligible
- Bachelor's degree holders can apply for advanced standing
Language Requirements
German language proficiency is essential for Ausbildung, as both workplace training and vocational school are conducted in German.
- Minimum B1 level German proficiency required
- Healthcare sector often requires B2 level
- Certification from Goethe-Institut or telc
- English-only applications are not accepted
Age & Other Criteria
While there's no strict upper age limit, most Ausbildung programs target younger applicants for practical reasons.
- Ideal age range: 18-30 years
- Applicants up to 35 may be considered for high-demand sectors
- Good health status (medical certificate may be required)
- Clean background check
Visa Requirements
Once you've secured an Ausbildung contract, you'll need to apply for the German National Visa (D-visa) for vocational training.
- Valid passport (minimum 1 year validity)
- Signed training contract from German employer
- Proof of German language skills (certificate)
- Biometric photos and completed application forms
Financial Requirements
You'll need to demonstrate that you can support yourself during the initial phase of your training in Germany.
- Blocked account (Sperrkonto) with €11,904 only if your stipend is less than €992/month (not required for most positions)
- Visa application fee (approximately €75)
- Health insurance for visa application
- Funds for travel to Germany
