System Engineer Modelling & Simulation

Airbus Defence and Space is looking for a ## System Engineer Modelling & Simulation (d/f/m) to strengthen the team "Modelling & Simulation Software Product Line" in the organization "Studies and Simulation" in Friedrichshafen. We develop innovative architectures for future Systems of Systems and products. Our in-house simulation framework is a key for the operational analysis of these systems to optimize them and make early design decisions. You work in an international environment that requires close coordination with internal and external stakeholders, such as customers and project partners. You are responsible for the implementation of complex simulation architectures within leading defence programmes and associated studies. • Technical leadership in the development and testing of AI approaches for autonomous planning and decision-making in the military environment
• Responsibility for the implementation of a study with a small study team in terms of time, cost and quality
• Preparation and conduct of customer presentations and meetings
• Creation of software architectures and MLOps-driven development for AI training on modern container/Kubernetes environments and distributed systems (e.g. Ray)
• Design and development of a mission management system for drone swarm systems (UxV – Unmanned "x" Vehicles)
• Leadership of technical exchange with other departments and project partners (industry, scientific institutes)
• Implementation and optimization of various deep reinforcement learning methods in conjunction with military simulations (C++ or Python)
• Technical proposal leadership for a study/project (scope, time, cost)
• Practical implementation and testing in cooperation with other departments as well as industrial and scientific partners (universities, Fraunhofer Society)
• You lead several studies.
• You are responsible for results at system level.
• Independent technical exchange with other departments and project partners (industry, scientific institutes)
• Preparation of offers for work packages (scope, time, cost)

• Successfully completed degree (Diploma/Master) or PhD in Computer Science or Engineering with focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and/or Simulation
• You have good practical programming experience in Python and relevant libraries
• Solid experience in simulation development / game engines with Python and/or C++ (or equivalent) would be an advantage
• Ideally, you have good practical experience in software engineering (including creation of software architectures);
• Practical experience with container/Kubernetes/Docker environments and distributed systems (e.g. Ray)
• Knowledge of key libraries such as Qt for GUI is an advantage
• Confident handling of CI/CD environments such as GitHub/Gitlab, PyCharm, Visual Studio, etc. (ideally on Windows and Linux)
• You have solid experience in agile technical leadership of project teams; good knowledge of the ATLASSIAN toolstack (JIRA, Confluence) is an advantage
• Willingness to travel nationally and internationally
• Fluent German and English skills
• Several years of experience in leading studies/projects, specifically the autonomous management of communication with all involved stakeholders
• Solid experience in simulation-supported operational analysis of military scenarios
