Apprenticeship as a Nursing Professional, 2027

The three-year apprenticeship combines theory at the in-house vocational nursing school with practical placements, partly at an external general hospital. Nursing professionals care for sick and dependent people, carry out medically prescribed measures, assist with examinations and document patient data.

• Caring for and supporting sick and dependent patients
• Carrying out treatments in accordance with medical instructions
• Preparing patients for diagnostic, therapeutic or surgical procedures and assisting with examinations and operations
• Providing basic care, such as making beds and helping with eating and personal hygiene
• Handling organisational and administrative tasks and documenting care measures

• School grades are not the only selection criterion; initiative, confidence, independence, teamwork or volunteer work are also important
• Intermediate school-leaving certificate or equivalent
• Lower secondary school-leaving certificate or equivalent plus a completed two-year vocational qualification, a permit as a nursing assistant, or a state-regulated nursing assistant or elderly-care assistant qualification lasting at least one year
