About this Apprenticeship
DB InfraGO AG offers a three year apprenticeship in railway traffic control in Gera, starting on 15 August 2027. The vocational school is on Kindleber Straße in Gotha. Working with a small team in a signal box in the greater Gera area, you will coordinate train movements and operate signals and points.
What You'll Learn
- Your colleagues show you step by step how to operate the equipment in a signal box correctly
- You learn when to press the right buttons to change signals or points that let trains move between tracks
- You regularly communicate with other train traffic controllers, control centre staff and train drivers
- You play an important role in the team, helping passengers travel safely and on time
Requirements
- You have successfully finished school or will soon do so, and your school qualification is recognised in Germany
- Your German is at least at B2 level (applicants with B1 German are offered an online B2 language course before the apprenticeship starts)
- You stay calm and keep track of things even in challenging situations
- You enjoy taking responsibility and can work with concentration
- You work well in a team and are reliable
- You are willing to work shifts
- An aptitude examination is part of the selection process for this apprenticeship.
What Deutsche Bahn AG offers
- Support for longer journeys to work, such as financial help, is available if certain conditions are met.
- Applicants with B1 German are offered an online B2 language course before the apprenticeship starts.
- You receive a mobile device that you can use for learning and in your personal time.
- You receive 16 free journeys within Germany each year and further travel discounts, such as a DB commuter ticket for your daily journey to work. Discounted travel for accompanying family and friends is also available.
- If commuting from your previous home would take more than 2.5 hours a day and you rent a home closer to work, you receive a rent allowance of up to €400 per month.
- After successfully completing your apprenticeship, you receive an offer to stay with DB.
- Depending on your training year, pay is between €1,324 and €1,531 per month, plus a Christmas bonus. These amounts apply from 1 July 2026. The employment conditions apply to the vast majority of apprentices within the DB Group.
- The DB Youngster Community offers workshops, events, community trips and more with other apprentices and dual study students.
- Up to €3,500 towards obtaining your driving licence during your vocational training, helping you travel for work and in your personal life. Details at db.jobs/fuehrerschein.
