Apprenticeship as Train Traffic Controller 2027

Train traffic control is an indispensable part of rail transport. Here you ensure that our passengers reach their destination safely and on time. Starting 1 September 2027, we are looking for you for the 3-year apprenticeship as a railway operator in train traffic control (f/m/d) for DB InfraGO AG at the Ingolstadt location. The vocational school is located in Munich. With the apprenticeship, you become the coordinator of our trains. You do not sit in the train, but in a control center (called "signal box"). We have countless of them throughout Germany. Via screens or panels, you can observe the trains in your area and influence their movement using buttons, keys, and levers. At the push of a button, you can set signals (traffic lights for trains) to green or red and also switch points so that trains can change tracks. Many other tasks make you the most important team member for the train drivers. You are in constant contact and exchange information, e.g., about changes during the journey. With your small team, you work in the greater Donauwörth area or in the Augsburg region on a signal box close to the action. Here you see the trains passing by. The control of the trains is mostly done via levers, push buttons, or rotary switches. With your large team of about 40 colleagues, you work in the operations center on an electronic signal box. At your workplace, you can track the trains on many screens and control train traffic by mouse click.

• Your colleagues show you step by step how to operate the technology in a signal box correctly
• You learn when to press the right keys and buttons to switch signals (traffic lights) or points (track change transitions)
• You are often in contact with the other employees in train traffic control and in the control centers as well as the train drivers
• You are an important part of our team and enable our passengers to have a safe and punctual journey with our trains

• You have successfully completed (or will soon complete) school and your school diploma is recognized in Germany
• Your German language skills correspond to at least C1 level
• Even in demanding situations, you remain calm and keep an overview
• You like to take responsibility and work with concentration
• Teamwork and reliability characterize you
• You are willing to work in shifts
