Apprenticeship as Certified Retail Specialist (IHK) Retail

The apprenticeship as a certified retail specialist is a good alternative to university studies. A plus point is that the apprenticeship combines theory and practice. From daily retail business to the areas of business administration, work organization, and accounting to topics such as marketing, logistics, and sales – a wealth of knowledge with which you could later become your own boss at EDEKA as a store manager. With the certified retail specialist qualification, you count among the management talent of tomorrow or you become your own boss as an independent retailer at EDEKA. The form of your apprenticeship is considered a practice-oriented alternative to a business administration degree. It usually lasts three years. Afterwards, you have two degrees: Retail Salesperson and Certified Retail Specialist (IHK) (which today corresponds to the quality level of a Bachelor's degree). In addition, you even get the 'Trainer Aptitude Certificate' (AEVO) as a third qualification. Degrees that directly lead management talent to a responsible position. First, you learn the daily retail business – from purchasing and sales to marketing, consulting, service, and customer interaction. Furthermore, you can acquire extensive and in-depth knowledge in the areas of business administration, marketing, work organization, and more. During your apprenticeship, you also participate in various projects – lessons at a local vocational school are completely omitted. Instead, you attend a local trade school.

You plan and organize sales. You procure goods and ensure their availability. You present goods and implement services. You determine and analyze business key figures. You help control business processes.

You have your Abitur or Fachabitur (university entrance qualification). You really enjoy working with customers and advising them personally. You can express yourself well and clearly so that everyone understands what you mean. You learn new topics quickly and have a quick grasp. Independent work and taking responsibility are a matter of course for you. You are an organizational talent and keep an overview even in stressful situations. Business contexts interest you and you want to learn more. You bring creativity to contribute your own ideas and drive things forward. You enjoy teamwork and like working with others. A friendly demeanor and a well-groomed appearance are a matter of course for you. You enjoy handling fresh food and know how important quality is.

Your earnings: €1,310 for months 1-6, €1,480 for months 7-18, and €2,023 from month 19 onward (valid from 01.09.2024). In addition to the trade school, you attend seminars that only EDEKA offers in this form, providing you with relevant practical knowledge. (Crisis-)secure workplace – people always have to eat.
