Apprenticeship as an Operating Room Assistant 2027

During the three-year full-time apprenticeship, you will learn to assist during operations, monitor patients, and care for them before and after procedures. Practical assignments and placements take place in areas including the emergency department, outpatient unit, endoscopy, and central sterilization. Theory is taught at the Ostalb Clinics Education Academy, with vocational school in Aalen.

• Prepare materials and the operating room, pass sterile materials, and follow specific hygiene guidelines
• Anticipate and provide the materials and equipment required in the operating room
• Care for and position patients before and after operations
• Organize and coordinate workflows in the operating or procedure room
• Prepare to participate in on-call duty during the third year of training

• Intermediate school-leaving certificate
• Alternatively, a lower secondary school certificate and at least two years of vocational training
• Willingness to complete a one-week operating room internship if not already completed
• A completed voluntary social year or federal voluntary service placement of at least twelve months at Heidenheim Hospital is desirable
• Minimum age of 18
• Medical certificate confirming fitness for the role
• Patience, empathy, and enjoyment of working with people
• Sense of responsibility and team spirit
• C1 language certificate with at least a good rating
• Recognition of certificates by a German regional government authority
