My Visit to the Urban Beekeeper

Victor Hernández is just calming the first bee colony with smoke as Lena and I climb through a small window onto the green roof of the corporate headquarters in Kassel. This morning the Kassel urban beekeeper will collect the first part of the honeycombs that our four diligent bee colonies have been filling with precious honey since May. When I started my position as a working student at K+S Minerals and Agriculture GmbH in the Sustainability & Environmental Management System unit in June 2019, I had looked forward to interesting and varied workdays, but I had not imagined that I would also spend a Monday morning on the roof of the corporate headquarters or in the urban apiary.
