About this Apprenticeship
- Glückauf Daniel, can you briefly introduce yourself? Glückauf, I am Daniel, 23 years old and have completed a voluntary internship in personnel development at K+S at the Kassel site in the last three months. Last year I finished my dual Business Administration studies with a focus on trade. In the coming winter semester I will start my master's studies in Human Resources Management. How did you come to do an internship at K+S? My original plan was to travel through South America for four months from the end of April before starting my master's studies in autumn. Unfortunately I had to postpone my travel plans due to the Corona pandemic until further notice at relatively short notice. I still wanted to use the gained time productively. Since I had previously done an internship in a personnel consultancy, I now wanted to get to know the client side. The advertised position in personnel development was optimal for this. Moreover, K+S was known to me as a regional employer. Currently we are in somewhat different circumstances due to the Corona pandemic. How did your application process go? My rather short-term application went quickly and uncomplicatedly despite the current circumstances. Via the K+S application portal I uploaded my documents and was invited a short time later to a virtual interview via Microsoft Teams. The very pleasant conversation lasted about 45 minutes. I was interviewed by a team colleague who also became my internship supervisor, as well as the then intern. Questions in the conversation were for example:
- Why do you want to do an internship in personnel development?
- Have you already been able to gain experience in this area?
- How did you become aware of K+S and the advertised position? In addition, I was asked about various stages of my professional career, such as my studies or other completed internships and my future professional plans. Did the internship meet your expectations? What was different than expected? Overall I am very satisfied with how my internship went. My goal of gaining a broad insight into the HR work of K+S was achieved and I was able to collaborate with a wide variety of departments in international projects. From the beginning I was equipped with a laptop and work materials to also work from home office. This flexibility pleased me. What I unfortunately missed a bit was the real and personal contact with my colleagues. Due to the Corona pandemic many colleagues worked a large part of the time in home office, so that one rarely met personally in the office. What did your daily routine look like with us? Due to the different task areas I had no typical working day, every day brought new challenges. Right from the start I was integrated into various projects, some of which were longer-term and extended over the whole internship and others were quickly completed. For example, I had the opportunity to conceive and implement a global donation campaign with an international project team. Moreover, it was exciting to experience the HR department as an interface to other corporate areas and, for example, to work together with the works council on an employee survey on the topic of home office and evaluate it. Besides my tasks in personnel development I also always had the opportunity to look at other HR areas, such as personnel marketing. Due to the Corona regulations I worked 2 days in the office and 3 days in home office. Thank you for the exciting insight, Daniel. We wish you all the best for your professional future!
