Communications Network Orchestration & Optimization Engineer

Rheinmetall Technologie Center GmbH in Düsseldorf is looking for a Communications Network Orchestration & Optimization Engineer (m/f/d) to shape the next generation of tactical communication networks. Full-time, permanent.

• Design, development and evaluation of intelligent algorithms and AI-based methods for orchestration, optimization and automation of hybrid communication networks (SATCOM, tactical 5G/6G radio networks, MANET, FANET)
• Optimizing routing, resource and capacity allocation methods for latency, throughput, availability and resilience
• Developing algorithms for beam management, beam planning and antenna and radio resource management
• Modeling traffic, demand and network behavior to optimize future communication networks
• Development and validation of simulation and optimization frameworks

• Successfully completed degree in electrical engineering, communications engineering, computer science, physics or mathematics (doctorate desired)
• Solid knowledge of communication networks and network protocols (TCP/IP, routing, QoS, 3GPP) and software-defined networking (SDN)
• Solid knowledge of modern communication systems (SATCOM, 5G/6G, mesh networks, MANET/FANET) as well as multi-domain and hybrid communication networks
• Experience in developing and evaluating complex algorithms for communication systems or network optimization
• Experience with optimization methods (linear/nonlinear optimization, combinatorial optimization, operations research)
• Very good programming skills in Python and ideally in MATLAB or C++
• Knowledge of beamforming, antenna systems or high-frequency engineering
• Knowledge of machine learning, especially reinforcement learning or AI for communications
• Knowledge of mathematical modeling and graph theory
• Analytical thinking and enjoyment of developing new algorithms
• Very good German and English skills, spoken and written
