About this Apprenticeship
The eye clinic at University Hospital Gießen and Marburg seeks an ophthalmology specialist in Gießen from 1 October 2026, focusing on the anterior segment, glaucoma and cataracts. This is a permanent full-time position.
What You'll Learn
- Independently perform routine and complex anterior segment operations, particularly cataract and glaucoma surgery.
- Independently run specialist glaucoma and cataract clinics.
- Explain procedures to patients before surgery, decide when surgery is needed and provide structured follow-up care in the hospital.
- Take part in specialist backup and on-call duties.
- Provide practical and surgical guidance to doctors in specialist training.
Requirements
- Recognised specialist qualification in ophthalmology.
- Completed doctorate.
- Strong, proven experience in anterior segment surgery, particularly performing cataract and glaucoma operations independently.
- Enjoyment of providing structured training for junior ophthalmologists.
