Textile laboratory technicians work in a research and development laboratory or in the textile industry. They carry out their assigned tasks independently, record the results of their experiments, investigations, and observations in a protocol, assess them, and evaluate them. In the chemical industry, they participate in the development and testing of new dyes and textile auxiliaries for the finishing of natural and chemical fibers, yarns, and fabrics. They test and improve existing products, support customers in solving application problems, and perform quality controls. In the textile industry, textile laboratory technicians are specialists in the operational laboratory. They test dyed materials for lightfastness, examine textile products for crease resistance, elasticity, and durability, and clarify cases of damage and customer complaints. For their analytical and applicative work, they have various laboratory, testing, and measuring devices, as well as high-performance microscopes and computers at their disposal.
