Job Description Specialization Plastics Technology Material testers specializing in plastics technology plan physico-chemical and mechanically-technological tests and test series. They examine specific products and parts for composition, structure, and properties. After damage incidents, they determine possible causes of component failure. They analyze samples for specific material properties using various testing equipment.

Specialization Metal Technology Material testers specializing in metal technology prepare physico-technical investigations and test series. For this purpose, they select suitable testing methods, measuring instruments, and aids. They examine metallic materials and products for properties, composition, and defects. They test various material properties such as hardness, strength, or deformability.

Part of the Ausbildung is the extended final examination. Part 1 of this examination, approximately 30 percent, is the same for all specializations. The differentiation into individual specializations takes place in the second part.

A major area of application for material testers specializing in metal and plastics technology is in research, development, and quality assurance. Here, further developments of materials or components and corresponding tests are accompanied. For all tasks, the theoretical basic planning of the work steps, a straightforward implementation of testing standards and regulations, as well as their practical implementation, are indispensable.

Supplementary lessons are provided at the RWTH Aachen company school.

School-based Ausbildung Vocational school classes take place two days a week at Berufskolleg 16 of the City of Cologne, Karthäuser Wall 30, 50676 Cologne.
