Dual Study Program: Bachelor of Arts - Social Work

A varied dual study program closely combining theory and practice to prepare students for the diverse responsibilities of social work. The Bachelor’s degree program in Social Work is completed at the Protestant University of Bochum. Upon successful completion, graduates receive a Europe-wide recognised Bachelor of Arts degree, which qualifies them to pursue a master’s degree at German and European universities. The City of Bochum is a modern public-service administration in the Ruhr region that promotes diversity, cultural diversity, mutual respect and appreciation.

Supporting and accompanying parents or legal guardians, children and young people in different phases and circumstances of life; designing and implementing local support services; working with legal regulations; protecting children and young people from threats to their physical, psychological and social development; supporting young people and families in court proceedings; providing information and prevention on topics such as addiction counselling and homelessness; collaborating with diverse cooperation networks, including counselling centres and facilities for children and young people. Planned practical placements include a municipal children’s and youth recreation centre, school social work, foster care services, youth assistance in criminal proceedings, the social psychiatric service, the Social Affairs Office and social services.

Abitur or unrestricted Fachhochschulreife. Proficiency in spoken and written German. Foreign school-leaving qualifications must be officially recognised for the German legal system. For dual study programs, applicants need at least a qualification equivalent to the full Fachhochschulreife. Applications may be submitted before all requirements are fulfilled, provided they are obtained by the start of the program.
