Veterinarian Specialising in Animal Welfare

The City of Ulm's veterinary office, based in Donautal, is seeking support in public veterinary services, focusing on compliance with animal welfare laws on farms, at businesses and in private animal keeping. Weekly hours are 19.5 for employees or 20.5 for civil servants.

• Carry out animal welfare inspections on farms, at businesses, in private animal keeping and during animal transport
• Independently assess animal welfare cases from a veterinary and legal perspective and order suitable measures to correct violations
• Prepare expert statements and reports that can be used in court for animal welfare violations, and work with public prosecutors and courts
• Prepare animal welfare statements as a public authority, for example on planning applications for animal housing
• Take on other public veterinary service duties as needed

• A completed degree in veterinary medicine and a valid German licence to practise as a veterinarian
• Sound knowledge of German and European animal welfare law, plus knowledge of related animal disease and veterinary medicine laws
• Knowledge of public veterinary services and/or experience enforcing regulations is desirable
• Sound judgement and an independent, responsible and organised approach to work
• Good communication and conflict handling skills, with a calm and factual approach even in difficult situations
• Ability to work in a team and remain professional and calm when dealing with distressing cases
• Willingness to work flexibly, including outside regular working hours
• Confidence using MS Office and willingness to learn specialist software
• Very good spoken and written German
• A valid category B driving licence
