Training Station SG01

Those who enjoy a good education are better equipped for their later professional life. This also applies to nursing. At the Uniklinik RWTH Aachen, nursing apprentices have been able to independently care for patients since March 2023 – in a protected setting and under the guidance of specially trained specialists. On the training station, nursing apprentices have the opportunity to develop and expand their competencies with close support from practical instructors, qualified colleagues, central practical instruction and the training academy. They are guided and supported according to their current level of training – adapted to their personal learning pace and learning conditions. On the training station, apprentices set their own learning goals and can try things out. They successively increase the complexity of tasks, so that they learn to take on more responsibility in patient care. Depending on the constellation of apprentices, learning tandems are also formed in which two apprentices jointly care for a group of patients and support each other. At the beginning of the week, they set individual learning goals, which are evaluated at the end of the week in so-called apprentice rounds. They receive qualified feedback from the instructors. Daily, the work is planned together with the instructors at the start of the shift and reflected upon at the end. Particularly exciting: SG 01 is an interdisciplinary station where neurological and trauma surgery patients are cared for, supported by therapeutic teams. The apprentices can thus engage with two very different specialties on one station.
