Apprenticeship Train Traffic Controller 2027

Train traffic control is an essential part of rail transport. Here you ensure that our passengers reach their destination safely and on time. Starting 1 September 2027, we are looking for you for the 3-year apprenticeship as a railway operator in train traffic control (f/m/d) for DB InfraGO AG at the Augsburg location. The vocational school is located in Munich. With this apprenticeship, you become the coordinator of our trains. You do not sit in the train, but in a control centre (called a "signal box"). We have countless such centres across Germany. Via screens or panels, you can observe the trains in your area and influence their movement using buttons, keys, and levers. At the push of a button, you can set signals (traffic lights for trains) to green or red and also switch points so that trains can change tracks. Many other tasks make you the most important team member for the train drivers. You are in constant contact and exchange information, e.g., about changes during the journey. With your small team, you work in the greater Augsburg area or the Augsburg region on a signal box close to the action. Here you see the trains passing by. Train control is mostly done via levers, push-buttons, or rotary switches. With your large team of about 40 colleagues, you work in the operations centre on an electronic signal box. At your workplace, you can track trains on many screens and control train traffic by mouse click.

• You learn when to press the right keys and buttons to switch, for example, signals (traffic lights) or points (track change transitions)
• You are often in contact with the other staff in train traffic control and in the control centres as well as with the train drivers
• You are an important part of our team and enable our passengers to have a safe and punctual journey with our trains

• You have successfully completed (or will soon complete) school and your school qualification is recognised in Germany
• Your German language skills correspond to at least level C1
