Apprenticeship as Farmer

You like to get stuck in, prefer being outdoors, have a way with animals, and want to know how agriculture works sustainably and future-proof? Then come to us at the Thünen Institute's experimental farm! We are looking for several apprentices who want to start on 16.07.2027 or later as well as on 16.07.2028 in the 2nd and/or 3rd apprenticeship year as a farmer (f/m/d). Thünen Institute – who we are At the Trenthorst location we research how organic farming can become more environmentally friendly, animal-friendly, and efficient. The Institute for Organic Farming belongs to the Johann Heinrich von Thünen Institute, the Federal Research Institute for Rural Areas, Forestry and Fisheries. Your workplace: the experimental farm Our farm operates according to the EU Organic Regulation and comprises 450 hectares of agricultural land. Here you will get to know a farm that combines arable farming, grassland, and animal husbandry:

• Arable farming and grassland management
• Keeping of cattle and poultry
• Feed from own production: All roughage and concentrate feed for all animals is produced by us on the farm

• Degree: at least a lower secondary school leaving certificate/ESA with completed first apprenticeship year or relevant basic vocational training year or one-year vocational school in the farmer occupation
• Driving license: at least class L
• Language skills: good German skills at C1 level, these are regularly assumed with a German school leaving certificate. If you do not have a German school leaving certificate, please attach a certificate of language level C1 to your application.
• Skills: Enjoyment of outdoor work and dealing with animals as well as willingness to learn and ideally interest in the research environment
