Operations Manager Trainee Programme, Thuringia/Saxony Region

An 18-month METRO trainee programme preparing you to become a store operations manager. It includes practical placements in different wholesale stores, training, a head office placement in Düsseldorf and an optional stay abroad. This vacancy has expired.

• Spend 1 to 2 months learning the work in a wholesale store and getting to know all departments and processes.
• Work for 2 months as a department manager to gain leadership experience and learn more about a product area's operations.
• Spend 2 months at head office in Düsseldorf: get to know departments such as purchasing, build a network and work on projects.
• Optionally spend 1 month abroad to experience METRO internationally; the choice of country depends on your language skills.
• Spend 12 months preparing to become an operations manager by working closely with store and operations managers across several stores and learning different leadership styles and priorities.
• Target role of operations manager: Lead daily operations and take financial responsibility for roughly half a store's product range; in large classic stores, the store manager and operations manager share responsibility for product areas.

• Successfully completed university or university of applied sciences degree in Business Administration or a similar subject.
• Retail or wholesale experience, for example through vocational training or work alongside your studies.
• A high level of flexibility and mobility for placements across the region.
• Enjoyment of direct contact with customers from the food service industry.
• Enjoyment of store trading and a passion for food.
• Analytical skills, a strong ability with numbers and very good German at C1 level.
