About this Apprenticeship
To strengthen its research and development team, SCHOTT is looking for a person who combines process engineering or related expertise with strategic thinking, project responsibility and practical implementation, and who brings experience in international and intercultural cooperation.
What You'll Learn
- Initiating, planning and leading complex development and implementation projects in innovative melting processes and melting process innovation.
- Developing and implementing technology roadmaps for future melting processes, including electrification, alternative heating, sustainability and new process concepts.
- Technical assessment of new technologies regarding technical feasibility, process and material properties, safety, sustainability, cost-effectiveness and scalability.
- Translating strategic goals, regional technology needs and business requirements into concrete R&D work packages, decision bases and implementation paths.
- Leading interdisciplinary project teams from R&D, production, technical service, engineering, quality and business stakeholders.
- Planning and evaluating laboratory, pilot and production trials and deriving transfer strategies for industrial applications.
- Building and managing external cooperations with universities, institutes and technology partners and contributing to research and funding projects.
- Contributing to the global technology, know-how and IP strategy including patents, project documentation and structured knowledge transfer.
- Clear, management-ready communication of goals, risks, decisions, progress and next steps.
Requirements
- Scientific university degree, ideally a Master's or doctorate, in process engineering, chemical engineering, physics, electrical engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering or a related technical field.
- Several years of experience in technical development, process development, melting technology, production technology or adjacent industrial R&D fields.
- Proven ability to understand complex technical questions in depth and translate them into realistic project plans, work packages and decision options.
- Strong project management skills combined with solid technical depth; not a pure PMO, coordination or administrative role.
- Experience with laboratory, pilot or production trials and transferring findings into technical applications is desirable.
- Knowledge of simulation, FEM software, modeling or process data analysis, for example COMSOL, ANSYS or comparable tools, is an advantage.
- Strategic thinking and pragmatic decision-making, drive to implement, initiative and willingness to take responsibility beyond narrowly defined areas.
- Strong communication skills across all hierarchy levels, fluent in German and English.
- High flexibility, intercultural experience and willingness to travel for projects, including longer project stays in Germany and abroad if needed.
