Operating Room Technical Assistant Apprenticeship - Training Starts 2026

A three-year apprenticeship to become an operating room technical assistant at St. Elisabeth Group facilities in Herne and Witten. The program includes 2,100 hours of block-based theory and 2,500 hours of practical placements at the group’s facilities.

Work in operating rooms, outpatient departments, endoscopy and central sterilization; collaborate with doctors; care for patients before, during and after surgery; prepare surgical instruments; operate medical equipment; document procedures.

Intermediate school-leaving certificate or an equivalent qualifying school certificate; physical suitability; flexibility and mobility; communication and teamwork skills; minimum age of 18; empathy towards patients; enjoyment and skill in working with people.
