Childcare Worker in Practice-Integrated Apprenticeship

You support educators in their daily pedagogical work, design play and learning worlds, promote developmental processes, and give children a sense of security. Step by step, you take on responsibility and grow into a task that shapes people – sometimes for a lifetime. You will be trained at the Office for Social Affairs and Youth. We support Düsseldorf residents in all phases of life. We create safe spaces for children where they can grow and learn, help families cope with financial burdens, and support older people so they feel well cared for in everyday life. Theory takes place 2 to 3 days a week at vocational school. In addition to your application with us, a separate application for a school place is required. You can decide which vocational school you want to attend. The school location can also be outside Düsseldorf. However, the vocational school should be within a suitable distance from your practical placement.

You care for and support children in their individual development. You plan and carry out play, movement, and creative activities. You assist children with personal hygiene, nutrition, and health education. You accompany children in their daily lives and strengthen their social skills. You observe and document children's developmental processes. You collaborate with parents and pedagogical professionals.

You have at least a lower secondary school diploma (after grade 9). You have sufficient German language skills. You are curious and enjoy working with children. You have social competence and empathy. You show initiative and commitment. You are reliable, friendly, team-oriented, and resilient.

Training Center: Our training center is your central point of contact for everything related to your apprenticeship: here you receive support with questions, personal advice, and guidance – from your start to successful completion. Additionally, we promote exchange and togetherness through joint activities and after-work offers. Part-Time Apprenticeship: The city offers people in special life situations, such as young parents, caregivers, refugees, or people with disabilities, a part-time apprenticeship under certain conditions to enable successful vocational training. As an EU apprentice, you can complete an internship abroad in Europe under certain conditions to broaden your horizons.
