Apprenticeship as Technical Product Designer

The special feature of the dual apprenticeship at Kesseböhmer is that you learn both in the training company and at the vocational school.

As a technical product designer you learn to create and modify documentation and 3D data sets for components and assemblies based on design and technical specifications. Also the coordination of work processes and construction processes, as well as the control and evaluation of work results taking into account the given material properties and manufacturing processes belongs to your areas of responsibility.

Good knowledge in the following areas represents the best prerequisites: Mathematics: As a technical product designer you calculate lengths, areas, volumes, masses and the centre of gravity of the product. You should have mathematical knowledge and understand geometric principles. Workshop/Technology: For designs and construction documents you must create, for example, three-dimensional views of the component or sketches. Therefore it is an advantage if you master methods and skills of technical drawing. Physics: To assess the load capacity or flexibility of assemblies and individual parts, you need to know their material properties. Basic physics knowledge and an interest in materials science are therefore advantageous. Information Technology: Complex CAD software is used in design and development departments. Basic IT knowledge is therefore helpful. Economics: You learn to calculate the costs for development, production and materials of a new product. Business knowledge from school can therefore be useful. What makes you: You are well organised and pursue a systematic way of working. Task fulfilment along the product development process.
