Dual Study Program B.Eng. Optical Engineering starting 01.09.2027

Most people probably associate lasers, LEDs, etc. with Star Wars or other far-out science-fiction films and not directly with the Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) Optical Engineering degree program. But that program trains engineers (d/m/w) who drive new processes and developments in the field of optoelectronics – and that can be pretty far-out too. Optoelectronics and laser technology are future-oriented technologies for markets and industries where pioneering work is still being done. As a global technology leader in space-based data transmission via laser, we at TESAT are always looking for fresh minds who want to shape the world of tomorrow with new ideas and approaches. Optics, computer science, electronics, and mechatronics: the Optical Engineering degree combines several engineering disciplines in one program, with the properties of light playing an overarching role. After the broad-based physics and technology foundation studies, you can decide in the more practice-oriented main studies whether to focus on optical systems or digital optics. Our location: At Tesat-Spacecom GmbH & Co. KG in Backnang, around 1,100 employees develop, manufacture, and sell systems and devices for satellite telecommunications. The product portfolio ranges from the smallest space-specific components to modules, entire assemblies, or payloads. TESAT is the world's only provider and technological leader in optical terminals for laser data transmission (LCTs). To date, well over 1,000 space projects have been carried out. We have our own training department with workshop and laboratories, where specialized courses also take place during practical phases. The program has a standard duration of seven or eight semesters. You will complete your studies at Aalen University of Applied Sciences. As your dual partner, you will spend all semester breaks and the practical semester with us and write your bachelor's thesis.

Technical college entrance qualification, general or subject-specific university entrance qualification with good grades, especially in mathematics and physics; interest in technical interrelationships and the further development of exciting technologies; analytical skills; good German and good English skills; teamwork, flexibility, and above-average commitment; mobility – not least because your studies will take place at two different locations (at the university in Aalen and with us in Backnang).

Attractive remuneration according to collective agreement plus collectively agreed special payments; 35-hour week and flexible working hours as well as possibility of mobile work; financial support for e.g. rent, travel costs, and canteen; company benefits (e.g. company pension scheme, occupational disability insurance, share program, car leasing models); introductory days at the start of training for all newcomers; exciting apprentice projects / specialized courses in the training laboratories; varied assignments in different areas/departments; S-Bahn/train connection (company premises only a few minutes from the station); company premises near city center, canteen on company premises.
