Senior AI Engineer - Agentic Software Development

As the primary digitalization partner of the Bundeswehr, we provide stable, secure, and efficient IT services at home and abroad, from basic operations to deployment-adjacent areas, thereby continuously increasing the Bundeswehr's command and operational capabilities. With over 8,000 colleagues, we operate and modernize one of the largest and most complex IT infrastructures in Germany. We in the Technology Engineering Team, as part of the Chief Technology Office (CTO), are co-responsible for the strategic renewal of BWI's service portfolio. Our mission is to develop and operate an AI service platform through which BWI employees gain access to cutting-edge AI technology. To this end, we combine innovation and research in artificial intelligence with best practices from DevSecOps and MLOps. As a Senior AI Engineer (m/f/d), you will develop a wide range of AI solutions consistently using an agentic approach and with intensive support from modern coding assistants. You control the development process from architecture and implementation to testing, debugging, and further development, ensuring technical quality, traceability, and robust results. You work closely with highly specialized experts in the fields of agentic systems, adaptive and self-learning AI, computer vision, neural architectures, and robotics. Development and operation take place in a powerful, security-oriented on-premises infrastructure with modern GPU clusters for compute-intensive AI workloads, model operation, training, and evaluation.

• Development of demanding AI solutions with a consistently agentic development approach
• Intensive use and control of modern coding agents throughout the entire development cycle
• Architecture, implementation, review, testing, and further development of agentically developed systems
• Transfer of proofs of concept and new AI approaches into robust productive solutions
• Integration of AI models, agents, tools, and external systems into holistic solutions
• Ensuring technical quality, maintainability, performance, and traceability

• Completed degree (Master or equivalent) in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field
• At least 5 years of professional experience after graduation in professional software development, of which at least 3 years in AI solution development
• Demonstrable professional practical experience in predominantly agentic software development with coding agents as the central development tool
• Very strong coding skills (including Python, TypeScript) and a solid understanding of modern software architectures
• Sound knowledge of Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and modern AI technologies
• Experience with APIs and distributed systems is an advantage
• High degree of independence, result orientation, decisiveness, and team communication
• Pronounced frustration tolerance and pioneering spirit for working with technologies in alpha and beta stages
• Negotiation-proficient German skills and very good English skills in word and writing
