About this Apprenticeship
For legal officers, every day is a day of decision. Like judges, they are bound only by the law and otherwise act completely independently. Legal officers have areas of responsibility in which they adjudicate independently – for example, in forced auctions, inheritance matters, or the enforcement of custodial sentences. The dual study program at the University of Applied Sciences for Legal Administration in Schwetzingen begins annually on September 1 and lasts a total of three years. It starts with two introductory days at a court, followed by a first twelve-month study phase at the university, during which basic knowledge in various areas of law is taught. This is followed by a twelve-month practical training phase at courts and public prosecutor's offices – as close to your place of residence as possible. An overview of possible deployment locations is provided by the list of locations. In the third year, a further twelve-month study phase follows, in which the acquired knowledge is deepened. Subsequently, the extended preparatory service begins, which lasts until the oral examination in the course of October and prepares the transition into the profession. Legal officers work at the heart of the legal system. They protect the rights of people in need of care by supervising their guardians. They ensure through enforcement proceedings that creditors receive their money. They settle inheritance matters, enforce custodial sentences, or ensure clear conditions through entries in the commercial or association register. With their independent decisions, they directly affect the lives of people in the state – and make an indispensable contribution to a just coexistence. As civil servants of the higher judicial service, legal officers have a varied and attractive workplace that offers them financial security, good work-life balance, and extensive further training opportunities. Graduates are appointed as senior judicial inspectors (salary group A 10). With increasing experience, the salary rises within the salary group. Furthermore, promotion opportunities up to senior administrative officer with office allowance (salary group A13 with office allowance) are possible. Regular adjustments of service and pension benefits occur uniformly for all civil servants of the state. Particularly qualified civil servants can advance to the higher service or complete additional training as a district attorney at a public prosecutor's office.
