About this Apprenticeship
Judicial specialists experience what others only know from TV. They follow exciting proceedings up close, from various perspectives. Without them, nothing works in the judiciary – because both in the courtroom and in the organization of proceedings, they bear a great deal of responsibility. In service teams, they are the central contact persons for citizens, lawyers, and parties to proceedings, ensuring smooth operations in the judiciary. They handle correspondence and excel at recording applications and statements with overview and organizational skills. In criminal proceedings, they take over scheduling, summon witnesses, and keep minutes during hearings. Furthermore, judicial specialists process file inspection requests and issue certifications. The calculation of court costs and the administration of files – almost exclusively digital – are also among their tasks. In doing so, they work closely and trustingly with judges, prosecutors, legal clerks, and judicial specialists. The state-recognized training is shortened to two and a half years in Baden-Württemberg. It is versatile, characterized by practical insights at courts and public prosecutor's offices, accompanied by theoretical instruction at the vocational school and the internal judicial training center. Trainees are intensively and individually supervised by experienced trainers. Support throughout all training phases ensures an optimal start in the judicial profession and promotes both professional and personal development. Judicial specialists ensure that the judicial apparatus runs smoothly. On their own responsibility, they create the basis for the functioning of the judiciary. They thus support judges, prosecutors, and legal clerks – and make their very personal contribution to justice. Judicial specialists are employed in the public service of the state of Baden-Württemberg and are paid according to the Collective Agreement for the Public Service of the Länder (TV-L). When employed in the service units of courts and public prosecutor's offices, remuneration is usually according to salary group 9a (TV-L). Judicial specialists who complete their training with a good examination result and meet the civil service requirements have the opportunity, after at least one year of professional practice, to complete a six-month additional training for the civil service career of the middle judicial service (judicial specialist). This six-month additional training consists of a four-month theoretical course to impart in-depth legal knowledge and a two-month practical phase. Judicial specialists perform, among other things, elevated employee tasks at courts and public prosecutor's offices, e.g., in the enforcement of fines, in dunning proceedings, and in deposit proceedings. ... at a glance. The state-recognized training as a judicial specialist begins each year on September 1 at one of the 11 training centers in Bruchsal, Freiburg, Heidelberg, Karlsruhe, Konstanz, Lörrach, Mannheim, Mosbach, Offenburg, Pforzheim, or Waldshut-Tiengen. In addition to theoretical instruction at the vocational school (locations: Freiburg, Heidelberg, Heilbronn, Karlsruhe, and Konstanz) and at the training center, practical training in the various areas of activity is an important component. In the 2nd year of training, the first part of the extended final examination is written at the vocational school. With the second part of the final examination, the training ends after just 2.5 years. Throughout the entire training, trainees are supervised by specially qualified training managers. ... as a personal choice. Judicial specialists are an important and indispensable part of the judiciary. Only through them is a smooth operation of business possible, because all office-organizational and administrative tasks are performed by judicial specialists. Therefore, it is particularly important that they enjoy organizing and like to take responsibility. If you enjoy independent work in a team and are not fazed by large workloads, time pressure, and dealing with different people, the training as a judicial specialist is exactly right for you. The prerequisite for employment is an intermediate educational qualification (e.g., Mittlere Reife). For your application, please use the online application procedure. You can find the corresponding link on this page and on the homepage of the Higher Regional Court Karlsruhe. The following documents are required: Letter of motivation. Individually designed resume. School reports of the last three school semesters. If applicable, certificates of training and employment periods since the end of school. If applicable, certificates of passed examinations.
