About this Apprenticeship
The City of Dortmund is a modern major city administration with over 11,000 dedicated employees and over 900 motivated apprentices and dual students. With us you not only get a top-qualified education that makes sense and is fun, but also the chance to be taken on afterwards. We are one of the largest training employers in the Ruhr area and offer you many exciting tasks, great development opportunities and an environment where your work is valued. Your dual study program: With the start of your dual study program you will be directly appointed to the civil service relationship on revocation. This means for you: No classic training contract, but a real certificate of appointment and the security of civil servant status from day one. Your path to the Bachelor of Arts in Administrative Informatics is perfectly timed and anything but boring. You can expect a well-thought-out alternation of four theoretical and five practical phases, one of which takes place at another authority. In practice you are not just a spectator, but right in the middle. You dive deep into the most diverse specialist areas of our administration, take on real responsibility and experience first-hand how versatile, modern and effective the work as a city inspector candidate really is. Your theoretical training takes place at the University of Applied Sciences for Police and Public Administration NRW (HSPV NRW) at one of the locations in Cologne or Münster. The teaching is interactive and cooperative and offers a personal learning atmosphere, as the course size is limited to a maximum of 33 students. Your study focus lies in IT and business administration subjects such as programming, computer science, financing or controlling. In addition, legal and social science content is taught. Your study focuses: 50% IT, 25% Business Administration, 20% Law, 5% Social Sciences. After training you will be appointed (with comprehensive onboarding) as a city inspector to the civil service relationship on probation (career group 2, first entry level) and work for three years as an administrative IT specialist in a department of the City of Dortmund.
What You'll Learn
In your practical phases you are right in the middle of the action from the start and are always accompanied by your practical supervisors. You support and manage IT projects and are the contact person for the specialist departments in matters of IT applications and digitalization. In addition, you assist in the selection of technical devices and clarify legal, organizational and business management issues relating to the IT area. Your path leads you through four exciting modules in which you immerse yourself in practice for three months each: Central IT: This section teaches the requirements of the central IT service organization, such as consulting and support processes and IT security. Your assignment takes place at the Dortmund System House. Application-oriented IT: Here you learn the needs for digitalization and deal with the topic of e-government. Your assignment also takes place at the Dortmund System House. Administrative internship: You get to know the "classic" administration and deal with requirements for legally compliant and citizen-oriented administrative work. The goal is to bring about administrative decisions and, if necessary, formulate them via official notices. You can be deployed in any department of the city administration. External assignment: You independently organize an IT assignment at a state authority, another municipality or abroad. In doing so, you acquire knowledge of IT processes in a different work organization and can gain valuable insights for work at the City of Dortmund.
Requirements
General higher education entrance qualification (Abitur) or unrestricted university of applied sciences entrance qualification (FHR). Citizenship of an EU member state. Maximum age of 36 years at start of studies.
