Your apprenticeship takes place at FABIDO, the municipal provider of more than 100 daycare centers in Dortmund. As the largest provider of daycare centers in Dortmund, we at FABIDO share a family atmosphere and common pedagogical principles. Yet each of our daycare centers is unique!

As a childcare worker, stimulating, supporting, and promoting children's developmental and educational processes are among your tasks. You are an important part of a team that organizes and implements the pedagogical daily routine in a daycare center. This team accompanies you throughout your entire apprenticeship. The practical training takes place in one of the more than 100 daycare facilities of FABIDO. In the one- to eight-group daycare centers and family centers with different pedagogical focuses, between 20 and 150 children aged 8 weeks to school entry are supported. As an apprentice, you care for children in the daycare facilities together with socio-pedagogical specialists. You provide pedagogically interesting and age-appropriate play materials and guide the children in playing. Depending on the age group, you do crafts, music, and gymnastics with the children. In addition, nursing and housekeeping tasks are part of your duties. You attend the Gisbert-von-Romberg Vocational College in Dortmund. There, parallel to the operational training, you will be taught knowledge in the areas of social pedagogy, health promotion and care, as well as cross-disciplinary subjects such as German, English, mathematics, and sports.
