Combined Training: Paramedic with Subsequent Training as Fire Captain

As a paramedic, you are the first crucial help when people need support. You independently provide medical first aid in emergencies and implement life-saving measures until a doctor arrives. You drive with blue lights and sirens to the scene, bring the situation under control, and make the right decisions immediately, including whether a doctor needs to be called. Every day is intensive, varied, and meaningful. You help directly where help is needed most.

The paramedic training is divided into theoretical and practical phases. Practical training takes place in various clinics, aid organizations, and at the various fire and rescue stations of the Dortmund Fire Department. Your tasks also include keeping disruptive influences away from patients, such as bystanders or agitated relatives. Furthermore, patient transport is part of your duties. You must first establish their fitness for transport and then carry out gentle and swift transports appropriate to the injuries or illnesses. During transport, you monitor vital body functions of patients. Upon arrival at the hospital, you hand over patients with the corresponding documents to the hospital staff. Administrative tasks are also part of your daily routine. You create progress documentation and protocols as well as transport receipts and mission reports after each deployment. In addition, you clean and disinfect the emergency vehicle, check medication stocks, and verify the operational readiness of equipment, materials, and vehicles, or restore it.
