Social Pedagogue/Social Worker for 24-Hour Child Protection

The Düsseldorf Child Protection Service, part of the Office for Social Affairs and Youth, is available at all times and provides children, young people and families with safety and protection. The committed team works in regulated shift service, in tandem, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

• You advise members of the public, including by telephone, and assess incoming reports containing possible indications of a threat to a child’s welfare together with colleagues.
• You carry out risk assessments in accordance with Section 8a of Book VIII of the German Social Code, contact families, children and young people, and clarify initial crisis situations.
• You develop and agree individual protection measures that allow children and young people to remain in their family environment, and initiate support measures.
• You provide intensive on-site crisis intervention, sometimes in cooperation with the police and regulatory authorities, and arrange emergency assistance where necessary, such as taking children into protective custody.
• You participate in family court proceedings, initiate discussions about threats to child welfare or court measures where necessary, and represent your professional assessment before the family court and the families involved.
• You document your professional assessments and measures clearly and contribute to the continuous quality assurance of child protection.

• You have a Bachelor of Arts degree in social work or social pedagogy with state recognition, or are a state-recognised graduate social worker or social pedagogue.
• You have strong psychological resilience, empathy and initiative, as well as high personal and social competence and well-developed conflict-resolution skills.
• You already have experience in child protection; knowledge of social law, youth welfare and healthcare is desirable.
• You are willing to work shifts and hold an unrestricted Class 3 or EU standard B driving licence.
• You have consulting skills and flexibility, as well as the ability to work in a team and cooperate with others.
• You are open to optimising work processes and actively contribute to them.
