Apprenticeship as an Environmental Technologist for Wastewater Management

Apprenticeship at the Cologne municipal drainage company in a future-proof sector. Start: September 2027. The programme combines practical work on wastewater and drainage systems with block-based vocational training in Gelsenkirchen and inter-company courses in Essen.

Operate and maintain technical systems sustainably, including drainage systems, rainwater management systems and wastewater facilities; treat and recycle sewage sludge, recyclable materials and waste; carry out quality assurance measures in the laboratory; assess measurement and control processes; generate energy sustainably and operate treatment plants efficiently; operate and maintain electrical equipment; inspect and repair machinery; attend block-based vocational training and inter-company courses.

Intermediate secondary school certificate or Hauptschulabschluss Type B; at least satisfactory grades in chemistry or biology, physics and mathematics; manual skills; interest in technology; team spirit and a careful way of working; ideally initial experience through practical craft placements.

Very good and intensive support from trainers and training coordinators; more than €1,300 gross monthly pay already in the first year plus an annual special payment; Deutschland-Ticket and 31 days of leave; annual apprentice team days and other events; possibility of shortening the apprenticeship with good performance; responsibility from the outset; apprentice projects; varied development opportunities; iPhones and iPads for the entire apprenticeship; subsidy for an Urban Sports Club membership.
