Apprenticeship as Educator

In the practice-integrated (PiA) training, theory and practice are closely linked from start to finish. Unlike other educator training programs, PiA training is remunerated and lasts only 3 years total due to the integration of practice and theory and the omission of school holidays (classic model takes 4 years). PiA training cooperates with Justus-von-Liebig-Schule Göppingen, DAA Göppingen, or St. Loretto Schwäbisch Gmünd. It comprises theoretical and practical parts: 3 school days and 2 practical days per week. During school holidays, trainees work only in practice. Theoretical training includes compulsory subjects (German, English, religious education, upbringing and care, education and development) and electives (leisure pedagogy, sports pedagogy). Final exam consists of written and oral parts plus a thesis with colloquium. An additional exam in German, English, and Mathematics (available as extra classes) yields the general university of applied sciences entrance qualification alongside the state-recognized educator qualification.

Secondary school diploma (Realschulabschluss) or equivalent; plus one of: completed vocational college for interns or comparable prior education; or completed childcare worker qualification or equivalent; or university of applied sciences entrance qualification, subject-specific or general higher education entrance qualification, or academic part of Fachhochschulreife from a social pedagogy/social science vocational gymnasium plus 6-week internship; or at least 1-year completed vocational training in social pedagogy plus 6-week internship; or at least 1-year completed vocational training in nursing with pedagogy/psychology elective plus 6-week internship; or at least 2 years as certified childminder plus 6-week internship; or at least 2 years working with children in a social pedagogical institution (voluntary social year/federal voluntary service count) plus 6-week internship; or at least 2-year completed vocational training plus 6-week internship; or managing a family household with at least one child for at least 3 years plus 6-week internship; for foreign certificates: German proficiency at least B2; personal traits: sense of responsibility, empathy, communication skills, independence

Monthly remuneration per TVAöD-BBIG: 1st year €1,368.26, 2nd year €1,418.20, 3rd year €1,464.02; 30 vacation days per calendar year; subsidy for Deutschlandticket; discounted housing on clinic campus; guidance by experienced practice supervisors; very good takeover chances after training
