About this Apprenticeship
Three-year dual study programme leading to a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering, specialising in railway power supply and overhead lines, at DB Engineering & Consulting in Hamburg. Academic phases at bbw University in Berlin alternate with practical phases every three months. At least 50% of university classes take place online.
What You'll Learn
- You learn the foundations of electrical engineering, including maths, physics and business administration.
- You learn about signals and systems, electric drives and mechatronic systems.
- During your studies, you also gain specialist knowledge of control and circuit engineering, measurement technology, electronic design and digital electronics.
- You also study project management, quality management and environmental management in electrical engineering.
- You receive instruction in technical English as well.
- During your dual study programme, you gain insights into the main areas of railway operations and infrastructure.
- Your home department is construction planning, where you work in an office and learn how to plan construction projects focused on overhead line systems correctly and thoroughly, including the different components that must be considered.
- Engineering services for consulting work, studies and feasibility assessments will later form part of your daily work.
- You also help plan and carry out exciting projects.
Requirements
- You have successfully completed, or will soon complete, your Abitur or Fachabitur, or hold an equivalent vocational qualification. Applicants with vocational qualifications must meet bbw Berlin's enrolment requirements.
- Your favourite subjects are maths and physics.
- You enjoy teamwork and are fascinated by how technology works.
- You also enjoy tinkering with electronic devices.
- Working independently and with clear goals comes naturally to you.

- Depending on your study year, pay is between €1,426 and €1,559 per month, plus a study bonus of €4,000. These pay amounts apply from 1 July 2026. The employment conditions apply to dual students at DB Engineering & Consulting GmbH.
