2027 Chemical Plant Operator Apprenticeship - Herne

Chemical plant operator apprenticeship at Evonik, with practical placements in Herne, courses at the training centre in Chemiepark Marl and classroom learning at Technische Berufsschule 1 in Bochum. Chemical plant operators are responsible for the full production process at their plant. The apprenticeship lasts 3.5 years and starts on 1 September 2027.

• Monitor and control chemical processes
• Maintain, inspect and clean chemical production plants
• Check and operate valves, measuring instruments and control devices
• Carry out basic chemical tests for quality control
• Manufacture, process and dispatch products
• Carry out process engineering methods such as heating, cooling and filtering
• Meet and check quality standards while following workplace safety and environmental protection requirements

• Good lower secondary school leaving certificate or a higher school qualification
• Enjoyment of and interest in science, especially chemistry
• Understanding of technology and physics
• Good maths skills
• Willingness to work rotating shifts
• Enjoyment of using digital systems and applications
• Careful working habits and ability to concentrate
• Enjoyment of teamwork
