Perception Developer - AI & Computer Vision

Kärcher develops professional KIRA cleaning robots for large industrial areas and public spaces. A perception developer is sought for the Schwaikheim site near Stuttgart.

• Develop the perception layer of the KIRA robots and combine sensor data (camera, LiDAR) into a reliable environment model
• Design robust obstacle detection methods and build image-based AI models
• Semantic environment understanding to intelligently adapt cleaning and driving behavior
• Build and maintain training datasets including annotation, and train, evaluate and improve models using field data
• Optimize AI and computer vision models for resource-constrained, ARM-based target hardware and validate using metrics and field logs
• Close collaboration with the sensor integration and motion & planning teams

• Successfully completed degree in fields such as computer science, robotics, machine learning or electrical engineering
• Practical experience in computer vision and machine learning, ideally from autonomous systems, mobile robotics or automotive
• Passion for letting robots see and understand
• Excellent Python and C++ skills, solid experience in deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow), CV libraries (OpenCV), ideally ROS/ROS2, and optimizing models for edge deployment (e.g. quantization, TensorRT)
• Structured, data-driven and experimental way of working and strong interface skills
