Apprenticeship – Machining Mechanic, Starting Autumn 2027

As a machining mechanic (m/f/x), you will manufacture precision components from various materials at ZEISS using exciting processes such as turning, milling, or grinding. You will typically work with CNC-controlled machine tools. You will set these up and control or monitor the manufacturing process.

• Setting up automated turning, milling, and grinding machines
• Writing, creating, and modifying CNC machine programs
• Selecting and using machines, suitable tools, clamping devices, and measuring instruments
• Paying attention to economic aspects such as machining time, tool and machine costs, and material consumption
• Checking dimensions, tolerances, and surface qualities of manufactured workpieces during the production process
• First contact with latest technologies such as networked machine systems and robotics

• A good secondary school diploma (Hauptschule, Realschule) or higher education entrance qualification
• Good grades in mathematics, physics, technology, German, and English
• Spatial and analytical thinking skills as well as interest in precise work
• A high level of commitment and self-motivation
• Teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills
