IT Specialist for Application Development (COBOL)

The task consists of the new and further development of software solutions in the area of the existing master data management of the NRW tax administration (basic information service). The task also includes maintenance, further development and 3rd-level support of the existing software solutions. The products are currently used in a heterogeneous system environment with various development and target platforms (Windows, Linux, BS2000). The replacement of operations on the mainframe environment and migration of existing software solutions into a LINUX environment is one of the important tasks for the coming years. You will accompany the process from the analysis of the existing products through the conception for the target environment to the implementation in a modern LINUX environment. The task is not a pure programming task. The task includes – after appropriate familiarization – the technical support and overall technical support of productive software systems ('product responsibility'), expressly not the immediate operation of the software.

Together with the specialist departments, you develop high-quality applications (COBOL). Analysis of requirements, design & conception, implementation. Documentation and execution of development-accompanying tests. You contribute your IT know-how and advise in a solution-oriented manner internally as well as with internal customers. Support of IT operations during the operational transition and commissioning of software solutions. You maintain, service and support (3rd-level) the applications in a heterogeneous development and operational environment.

You have a completed university of applied sciences, bachelor's or diploma degree in information technology or a degree program with IT relevance. If you have not attended a university, you should still continue reading. We compare equivalent skills and relevant professional experience. Further necessary requirements: You have in-depth knowledge and several years of practical professional experience in at least one structured programming language (preferably COBOL, alternatively e.g. PL1, C, Pascal). If you do not yet have experience with COBOL: the willingness to intensively familiarize yourself with this language and expand your knowledge. You have knowledge and practical experience in the use of a mainframe platform (e.g. BS2000, z/OS, MVS etc.). You have good knowledge in the area of UNIX/LINUX. You have knowledge and practical experience in the conception and execution of development-accompanying tests. You have knowledge and practical professional experience with tools of a modern development workplace (e.g. current IDE, version control, build scripts/automation, automated tests). In addition to your technical know-how, you have very good German language skills in word and writing. You like working in a team and actively contribute to the development of good solutions and innovations.
