Data Architect

DEUTZ is seeking an experienced Data Architect to develop its central Databricks-based data lakehouse platform. The company develops mobility and energy solutions, including drive systems, alternative drives, decentralised power generation and data-based services.

• Take overall technical responsibility for the architecture and development of our Databricks-based data lakehouse platform, using Medallion architecture and Delta Lake
• Data modelling: design scalable, reusable data models and define standards, reference architectures and best practices for data integration and storage
• Administration and governance: manage workspaces and clusters, role and access control concepts, and costs through FinOps. Also take professional and organisational responsibility for the Data Governance Board
• CI/CD and automation: develop CI/CD, DevOps and MLOps practices, such as Databricks Asset Bundles, Infrastructure as Code, automated deployments and tests, to ensure reliable platform operation
• BI and analytics enablement: help business departments make data-driven decisions through high-performance, well-documented data products and integration with BI and analytics tools such as Power BI
• Collaboration: work closely with data engineers in our nearshore centre, business departments and external partners; provide technical guidance within the team and act as a sounding board for architecture decisions

• A completed degree in computer science, business informatics, data science, mathematics or engineering, or a comparable qualification
• At least 5 years of professional experience in data engineering or data architecture; substantial practical experience with Databricks in production environments is a strong advantage
• A deep understanding of data lakehouse concepts, Delta Lake, Apache Spark and modern data modelling, such as Data Vault and dimensional modelling
• Practical experience with Unity Catalog, data governance, data quality, and security and access control concepts
• Experience with SAP BW or other SAP systems would also be desirable
• Proficiency with a cloud platform, preferably Microsoft Azure including Azure Databricks, ADLS and Azure DevOps, as well as Python and SQL
• Experience with CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform, and ideally MLOps
• Analytical, structured thinking, strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical topics clearly to business departments
• Very good German and good English, both spoken and written
